Cats, like any animal, suffer a series of common cat health problems.  Some of there are serious, some of them are not.  It is important that we as cat owners learn how to identify these health problems in cats in order to prevent complications.  Along with knowing about them, we should also contact the veterinarian any time we notice a strange behavior in our cats.

This strange behavior could be a lack of appetite, itching, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and drooling, increased intake of water, among others.  We have to keep our eyes open, because we are the ones who will ultimately notice our cat is not acting the way he usually does.  If you are a new cat owner, it would be good to read a lot about cat health, to be more prepared.

In this article I will describe a list of the common pet cat health problems you may encounter. Remember, that this is not a complete list; it just describes common conditions and illnesses.  Warning: NEVER skip a visit to the vet.

Cat Fleas

Fleas are one of the most common problem cats and cat owners face.  These little parasites can cause tapeworm infections and anemia.  There are various flea control options, but don’t use any before consulting with your doctors.  There are some flea control products that could be lethal if used on cats. Don’t forget also about good prevention steps.

Furballs

Another common problem, fur balls or hairballs, are balls of hair that accumulates in your cat’s stomach.  These balls are expelled wither through feces or with vomit.  These hairballs are slowly formed every time cats lick their bodies and swallow hairs.

Worms

Worms are parasites that live inside your cat’s body. There are many types of worm such as tapeworms, ringworms, hookworms, roundworms and lungworms.  Treatments for worm growth include the use of medications to kill parasites.
